This October, Education360 hosted two complementary NCCD symposium sessions on the same day. While our evening session focused on leadership, governance and oversight, the NCCD Inclusive Education & Practice Symposium was designed specifically for the people closest to day-to-day student support: teachers, learning support teams, Inclusive Education Leaders and NCCD Coordinators.

A Strong Response from the Education Community

With more than 100 registrations across our October symposium sessions, the response highlighted just how important practical, role-specific NCCD support continues to be for Australian schools.

NCCD processes involve many different people across a school, and each role brings a different perspective. For teachers and learning support teams, the challenge is often making sure adjustments are documented clearly, supporting evidence is maintained and information remains consistent throughout the year.

The Inclusive Education & Practice Symposium was created to focus directly on those everyday realities.

Practical NCCD Support for Everyday Practice

The session explored the practical side of the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability, with a particular focus on strengthening evidence, adjustments and documentation.

Participants explored how to document reasonable adjustments more consistently, maintain quality supporting evidence and better understand what should be considered when determining levels of adjustment.

Rather than viewing NCCD as a process that becomes important only around the annual collection, the conversation focused on how stronger documentation practices can become part of everyday teaching and student support.

What the Session Focused On

Building stronger documentation practices starts with clarity around what adjustments are being provided, why they are required and what evidence supports those decisions.

Evidence & Adjustments
Documenting reasonable adjustments, maintaining supporting evidence and improving consistency across student records.

NCCD works best when teachers, learning support teams and coordinators have a shared understanding of processes and responsibilities.

Consistency & Collaboration
Strengthening collaboration across teams and creating clearer, more sustainable NCCD practices throughout the school year.

Why Stronger NCCD Practice Matters

One of the recurring challenges schools face is not necessarily a lack of effort, but inconsistency.

Evidence may sit across different systems or folders. Adjustments may be recorded differently from one classroom to another. Responsibility can also be shared between teachers, learning support staff and NCCD Coordinators without a clear process connecting everything together.

Over time, these gaps can make it harder to understand what support has been provided, prepare for reviews and maintain confidence in the information being reported.

Stronger NCCD practice means making documentation easier to understand, easier to maintain and more consistent across the school.

Looking Beyond Census Time

A key theme throughout the session was the importance of moving away from last-minute NCCD preparation.

When evidence and adjustments are documented progressively throughout the year, schools can reduce the pressure associated with annual collection periods while creating a clearer picture of the support being provided to students.

This also creates stronger foundations for internal reviews, moderation processes and collaboration between educators and school leadership.

Supporting Schools Beyond the Symposium

The symposium was an opportunity to bring educators together, share practical guidance and create space for questions around the realities of managing NCCD in schools.

It also reflects Education360's broader focus on helping schools strengthen visibility, consistency and decision-making through both professional learning and technology.

Through NCCD360, schools can manage student information, adjustment records, supporting evidence and reporting in one place, helping teams maintain a more connected approach to NCCD throughout the year.

The Conversation Continues in November

Following the strong response to our October sessions, Education360 will host another NCCD symposium on 17 November.

It will provide another opportunity for educators and school teams to explore practical approaches to NCCD, strengthen documentation practices and build greater confidence as they prepare for the year ahead.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in October and contributed to the conversation. We look forward to welcoming more schools in November.

Stronger evidence. More consistent processes. Greater confidence in NCCD.
